Different Route, Same Fun Nonetheless

What are summer holidays for SMUKI-ers without a dose of extreme fun? Apart from our usual activities of banging the floor with our saman dance, hitting the mystical gamelan and staging a grand musical drama every year, SMUKI members also love to venture into their more adventurous selves through our annual Night Biking!

SMUKI Night Biking started on one fine summer day in 2007 when Michelle Kusuma came up with this idea because she was so bored over the summer. The event received a wonderful response from SMUKI members that SMUKI has decided to make it a part of SMUKI’s summertime calendar.

After two years of going through the same route, SMUKI has decided to be more adventurous this time and explored a whole new path for Night Bike 2009. Having traditionally started (for two years, at least) from SMU and gone through around town, this year, all the bikers had to travel all the way to East Coast Park to start off the exciting night.

So on the night of 19th June, the seventeen-people pack cruised through the straight lane of East Coast Park to head to different parts of Singapore. From Singapore Indoor Stadium to Lau Pa Sat to Marina Barrage, the laughter and fun only became escalated deeper into the night despite the fact that it was taking so much more effort to pedal the bikes forward. Stargazing at Marina Barrage and taking loads of photos throughout were of course part of the agenda of the night. We even climbed up a bridge to a clearing where we could get absolutely the BEST position to take photo with the Singapore Flyer.

Even though some people were too exhausted to speak at the end of the event, it was definitely a night worth spending. Nothing can ever beat the feeling of a moonlit ride together with the beloved fellow SMUKI members.
